Patrice Brantley, a community licensed mental health therapist, says she watched her father tried to kill her mother when she was just 6-years old.
Patrice Brantley is an author, educator, licensed therapist, and podcaster, who is on a mission to empower others to overcome childhood trauma and heal. At a young age, Patrice Brantley experienced severe trauma through domestic violence in her home. She was just 6-years old when she witnessed her father abuse her mother. One night, her father in a rage grabbed his gun and decided to shoot her mother. Her father aimed at her mother twice and the first time her father’s gun jammed and the second time he pulled the trigger and the gun misfired. This was an extremely traumatic experience for a 6-year old to watch and caused her to be anxious and hyper-vigilant for many years. In fact, the trauma of that night influenced Patrice’s career choices significantly. After 16 years as a professional educator in the Broward and Miami Dade County public school systems, Patrice decided to do something to help others. As she got to know other kids and families over the years, she came to understand how significant her childhood trauma was. She was exposed to healthy family dynamics, and she began to understand that her trauma was not a textbook case. She volunteered with the I Am Ministries of Miami Dade and Broward County and eventually decided to become a licensed therapist and podcaster, and has now touched the lives of millions by helping them to heal from their childhood trauma. Now she is also the author of an audiobook and workbook titled Trauma and Their Cousins that breaks down the following three keys to healing from childhood trauma: 1. Be honest that you have been hurt 2. Seek out the proper help 3. Follow through and walk through the process and know that you’re working. These three steps empower the person seeking healing from childhood trauma to do so. Patrice wants people to understand that “it doesn’t make you weak to seek help to heal.” Her motto is: “Be inspired to be yourself and be inspired to empower someone else.” And for this reason, she passionately serves as a teacher and community licensed Mental Health Therapist. Born in Miami, Florida, and committed to helping others, she wants to share her journey to empower and influence the world to heal from childhood trauma. She is empowering millions through her podcast, workbook, and audiobook. Is the nation’s so-called first female-recession avoidable? Harvard Business School Alumna, and women’s leadership and development expert, Christy Rutherford, believes so. Although women in leadership have made significant gains in the last decade, imagine where they would be if practical solutions were offered in lieu of constant conversation surrounding the challenges women face in the workplace. Rutherford, weighs in on how women can focus their efforts on overcoming these societal norms.
When speaking about solutions to this age-old problem most times you’ll hear, “Get another degree”, “Spearhead this volunteer project”, “Stay late and work through the weekend in order to show that you’re dedicated to the job” and the list goes on. Contrary to what was offered in the latest Forbes article, “COVID Leads To A Pink Collar Recession”, women in leadership do not need to earn another degree or certification. According to Rutherford, leveraging their established degrees and certifications properly introduces the current value of the woman in leadership to the organization. There are women with 2 Master’s degrees making $70k while their market value is $255k, so additional degrees does not aid in job retention or relevance. The Forbes article also referenced volunteering and working side projects. How many times have women spearheaded a volunteer project or taken work home in order to prove their worth to an organization determined on devaluing them? While working with her clients of all backgrounds, ethnicities and industries, Rutherford noticed a common thread, which was outlined in her Forbes feature, Do Women Create Their Own Glass Ceilings? These women in leadership are overwhelmed and exhausted from doing a number of GOOD things but aren’t doing the RIGHT things to get promoted and be seen by their leadership team. Rutherford makes it clear that her clients, whom a majority are black women, get promoted by doing less. She coaches these women into success by assisting them in creating a clear strategy that identifies the activities they are doing that do not produce a ROI. Once these activities are identified, these women stop doing them which usually clears up 50-60% of previously occupied time. They are now able to maximize their output in less man hours which allows them to allocate this new “free time” to self-care activities. Being more present in the home, less stress, more money, and more energy equates to a greater quality of life. It is time for women to stop riding the career carousel and become more strategic. Mastering office politics and self-care advocacy are the tools Christy Rutherford uses to coach women into getting out of their own way and into the C-suite, without having to leave their current organization, in most cases. Her success stems from the ability to help women get clarity on what they REALLY want, help them figure out what’s REALLY stopping them from moving forward and forcing them to make themselves a priority. These secrets are just the beginning to unlocking the next level of income success for Rutherford’s clients, which since June 2020 has accumulated to over $1.25 million in promotions and raises. In writing this book Bennie shares with the reader what he has learned with each of their passings with the hope that his experiences may be used to inspire others to help move past the hurt and to turn those painful feelings into powerful and positive forces that heal. Bennie Randall Jr. started out in the music business as a dancer, hype man, and rapper. During this time, he regularly toured the country entertaining hundreds of crowds. Not feeling quite complete, he moved to Brooklyn, New York in with only $500 dollars in his pocket. Times were certainly hard renting a room in an attic and, at one point, having to sleep in his car, but he never gave up. After losing his sister, two brothers, first born child, and father, Bennie slowly realized that all of the challenges he'd faced held some sort of lesson and knew the reason he was put on this earth was bigger than himself. As he began to share his story with others, "The Motivator" was born. After the success of his first book, "The Motivation Factor", "the speaker with the golden voice" (proclaims renowned speaker Les Brown) gained the opportunity to speak in front of small organizations and Fortune 500 companies alike. Bennie felt he had found his life's purpose - to help people discover the greatness within themselves. As more and more cities’ eateries shut down due to the global COVID-19, pandemic, many people are relying delivery on apps and services for their food. One black-owned delivery service and app is taking advantage of the high demand and connecting with black-owned restaurants to reach their customers.
Launched in February 2019, Black and Mobile was created in order to deliver food and connecting users directly with black-owned restaurants in their area. The startup business and delivery app service got its buzz from its hometown of Philadelphia and has now opened its services in Detroit. The company got its big shout-out through popular Philly restaurant Country Cooking’ on Instagram, which caused a new set of followers to discover the service. For many small restaurants, services like UberEats and Post-mates have high commissions and marketing budgets or don’t cater to them. Services like Black and Mobile help local restaurants without access to those apps cater to this customer base. When the coronavirus outbreak, Black and Mobile saw a huge boost in sales from clients who wanted food from their favorite local restaurants. With the recent surge in deliveries, apps like these are filling in to fulfill that demand and helping local restaurants stay afloat during this public health crisis. That surge in demand has allowed the company to expand its online directory and move into Detroit. As of right now, the company has 26 restaurants registered in the Philadelphia area on its website with another 14 establishments in Detroit. Restaurants in both cities can sign up on Black and Mobil’s website to be included in the directory. You can also download the Black and Mobile app or place orders on the company’s website.
